What a year...

Now that we have come the last term of this academic year, we thought it would be nice to reflect on what we have achieved in spite of all having to study from home.

Being a fairly recent society (only set up in 2018-2019!), we have sadly not been able to make all the events on our list happen to make ourselves known to UCL students. However, we didn’t let it derail us from trying to make the most out of what we had!

From November 2020 to January 2021, we organised the Art Competition focusing on celebrating Human Rights Day to raise awareness about the 10th anniversary of water and sanitation being formally recognised as vital human rights by the UN. We managed to raise over a £100 for WaterAid thanks to the efforts of everyone involved in the competition. We would also like to thank the UCL Climate Action Society, the UCL Art Society and Savage, UCL’s Arts and Culture Journal as well as SOAS and Exeter WaterAid Societies who kindly shared our event with their members.

Be sure to check our previous post to see who won the competition!

We were also delighted to invite our members to take part in SOAS WaterAid Society’s webinar on ‘Getting into the Charity Sector’ in February. They had invited a Development Studies professor from SOAS, a representative from WaterAid, and the CEO & founder of the NGO Bloody Good Period. We found this career panel really helpful and diverse as they gave us amazing tips on how to pave our way into the charity sector.

The UCL Committee of 2020-2021 would like to thank all our members who followed us during this (weird) year.

We sincerely hope that next year, we will have much more opportunities to organise fun events and raise awareness on campus about climate change, gender and racial inequality and all the other important issues which are intertwined with the basic access to water, sanitation and hygiene.

P.S: here is our new logo!
